Lights Out 2000

This is Tiger's latest Lights Out offering, and it's a corker! The major selling point is the fact that this game plays 3-state Lights Out. The lights cycle through Red, Green Off. This makes it a significantly different challenge.

In fact there are four different types of game that you can play.

Game 1: 3-colour puzzles
This game is the 3-state version of Lights Out. There are 100 pre-computed puzzles, increasing in difficulty as you go along. This game is of course the main attraction!

Game 2: Action
This is a peculiar game. The machine randomly turns on lights, and your aim is to keep as many turned off as you can. It starts off in classic 2-state Lights Out mode, but eventually moves on to a 3-state game. It becomes much harder at this point. More details of this game to follow.

Game 3: Two Player Game
Another slightly strange game. One player plays red and the other plays green. The aim is to prevent your opponent from being able to press any buttons. At the start the machine lights a few buttons for each player, and chooses who goes first. Then you take it in turns to press a button which is already lit in your own colour. This turns on any unlit squares which are adjacent to the one you pressed (using the standard lights out "+" effect pattern. Lights which are already lit (red or green) are unaffected.

Game 4: Classic Lights Out
This is just the Ordinary Lights Out that we all know and love. For more details see my Lights Out page. The inclusion of this game makes Lights Out 2000 pretty good value. Go out and buy one now :-)

More Information

Game 1: 3-colour puzzles You can solve these puzzles using a slight (and obvious) variation of the Light Chasing algorithm. More details here shortly. Incidentally, only 1/27th of all possible puzzles are solvable. The manual seems to imply that the maximum number of moves required is 24, but I haven't verified this yet...
